One week out...

The view from the booth.  Dammit.

The view from the booth.  Dammit.

In Newnan Theatre Company's production of Peter & the Starcatcher, my lighting guy is also a cast member, and a couple of nights ago he twisted his knee holding an umbrella.  HOW DO YOU TWIST A KNEE HOLDING AN UMBRELLA, CHAZ??

So today, instead of prepping my herb garden or clearing away the detritus of winter in the flower bed — and generally just chilling before getting ready for our last runthrough before tech/dress rehearsals begin, I will be clambering up and down the rolling scaffolding apparatus (that I had the foresight to purchase as artistic director twenty years ago) to focus lights.

Ugh.

And then Chaz and I will meet at 6:00 for him to explain to me where I can add the remaining instruments.  Which I will then have to clamber back up to hang and focus.

Allow me to say that I actually do know how to do all this. After all, I made a C in lighting class.  But I hate, I hate, I HATE lighting, and I especially hate trying to discern someone else's lighting schedule.

Oh well.  Such is the life of a director in community theatre.

Chaz, by the way, is brilliant as Betty Bumbrake, young Molly's Nana. You will believe a stocky man with a beard is the best nanny ever.  Mar 1–11, Newnan Theatre Company.
