Need a sound effect for your video project?  For your Country–Western/EDM mashup?

Here you go, straight from the BBC.

One nice touch is that the search is automatic/real-time: you type in what you're looking for, and the list adjusts as you type.

Another nice touch is the completeness of the descriptions:

"Farmstead in late Spring, early morning atmosphere with Wren, Robin, Pheasant, Cuckoo, Chaffinch, House Sparrows, Goldfinch, Peacock, feral Pigeon & Peacock, with distant sheep & cattle."

Feral pigeons. Only the domesticated British would think of making that distinction.  (Or the Germans.)

Ha:

(This is from a search on cuckoo: in addition to the woodland scenes and the comic bits, you can get the cuckoo clock calling every hour, with or without chimes.)

If you can't find what you're looking for at the Beeb, look over at freesound.org. This collection is huge, comprehensive, and constantly growing.  I have used it frequently in the past to create sound effects for shows or for warning sounds in my former elementary media center.

What can you find?
