Read, Comment, Steal

N.B.: I am away celebrating my 40th anniversary with my Lovely First Wife in New York City. This is a scheduled post.

I was at Backstreet Arts last week hoping to encounter someone who wanted to write, but it was one of those days when the artists wanted to paint instead.  So I took the poem I had clipped from the New Yorker and created an activity folder that anyone could pick up at any time and play with.

Activity folders are common in elementary education, and I have tried to create similar items for Backstreet — I'm not always there, and if someone is looking to get started or for guidance, these can help until I'm available for consultation.

This one is called Read, Comment, Steal, and there you have it in a nutshell.  I made a funky cover, some minimal instructions, glued the poem inside, and wrote a comment of my own to get the thing started.

The instructions read: Read the poem inside.  Leave a comment about how the poem works, the poet's techniques, your reaction — anything.  If there's something you can steal, tell us!
