Fun Friday Resources

I hope you’re not hoping for useful links to useful things to spur you into MAKING THE THING THAT IS NOT, because you and I both know that we’re at the I-wonder-what-the-Assistive-Feline™-would-look-like-shaved-and-painted-orange stage of our confinement.

No, this week I’m just giving you places to go and waste time. Good work on the TASK AVOIDANCE!

First, though, here’s one useful site, whileathome.org, launched yesterday to provide a source for Covid-19 information and assistance.

Need more rabbit holes? Try the usefulinterweb.com/, which gives you a single link every day to explore. There are links to websites, books, videos, etc.

The Smithsonian is always good for a bit of weirdness, and so we have the Sally L. Steinberg Collection of Doughnut Ephemera at the National Museum of American History.

Global Literacy is Increasing

Over at Beautiful News you will find very pretty graphs of positive news. You can click on each tile to see it full size, plus links to the source material and to the data the gang used to make the graph.

If, like me, you are a cocktail buff, here’s one of my favorite bloggers, Libation Legacy, with a great exploration of some early 20th-c. cocktails.

Here’s SoundScape another background music generator, this time with a visualization to go with it.

Like language? Of course you do. Over at his blog, Stan Carey has days of reading about fun language stuff.

All right, here’s one thing that’s productive: your own library kit. Now you can waste days cataloging your library and getting it ready to check out to friends.

More into videos? Try British Pathé newsreels or Los Angeles car videos.

And if you’re tired of baking break, try this list of cooking links for other ideas of something to do in the kitchen. (Yes, that site is page after page of lists. Another TASK AVOIDANCE!)
