Fence art, part 5

I thought my next step in creating the fabric banners to hang at the top of my fence was to do some ABORTIVE ATTEMPTS/sketches, e.g., deciding where to place the shell things or whether to have stitching or painting or anything else decorating the surface.

I even reasoned that I should not allow myself to buy the supplies to create the banners until I had it designed. That way, I thought, I would not have another pile of material sitting around while I did nothing but TASK AVOIDANCE.

But then I had an idea: what if I went ahead and made the plain banners and used those to make any further aesthetic decisions (vid. sup.)?

In other words, I could use my five banners as the canvas (!) for visualizing the final product. Hang them up, pin the metal rings to them, make changes, forge ahead.

Done, and done. Another canvas drop cloth bought, washed, dried. Twill tape in a 72-yard roll from twilltape.com — just up the road in Marietta and cheaper than buying the ≈30 yards I needed in little packs.

More 5” metal rings, a lot of outdoor thread (like I used for the 3 Old Men labyrinth), and I’m going to try these to hang the shell things:

A touch of color, and easy to snap/unsnap when necessary.

Onward.
