Fun Friday Resources

While we’re on the topic of self-comfort, here are two websites, both of which do essentially the same thing: allow you to write yourself a letter in the future.

The first I have used before: FutureMe.org. It’s pretty astounding when you open your email one morning and there’s a letter from yourself from five years before. Did you finish William Blake’s Inn? How did that production of Christmas Carol go?

The second just came across my desk yesterday, which is what prompted this post: Message to the Future. The main difference between the two seems to be that while you need to sign up for an account for FutureMe, you can just use Message right up front. FutureMe saves all your letters, so you could use it to have a dialog with yourself over the years; Message simply holds your message until it’s sent, then deletes it.

Either website is a really cool way to reflect on what your hopes and plans are and to ask yourself in the future whether you achieved them. It’s like having a mini-scenius without having to deal with those other creative types who might take to nagging you about Lichtenbergianism for Kids or Ten Little Waltzes.

This came across my desk this morning from the Tate in London: Mary Fedden’s still lifes. I found them bold and appealing. They may be just what you’re looking for, for your next STEAL FROM THE BEST.
