Lichtenbergian Proposed Efforts 2024 update

For those just joining us, some background: At the Lichtenbergian Society Annual Meeting, the central RITUAL in the evening’s agenda is 1) having our Proposed Efforts for the past year read out to us from the record book and accounting for what we did or did not accomplish; and 2) recording our P.E. for the coming year.

Here are mine:

Proposed Efforts for 2024

William Blake’s Inn

Nope. Didn’t happen. Is not likely to happen in my lifetime.

Read

I proposed reading (finally) The Landmark Herodotus: The Histories, translated by Andrea L. Purvis and edited by Robert B. Strassler; and Tristram Shandy, by Lawrence Sterne. I’ve started Tristram. I’m not sure where the Herodotus is.

Compose

I was thinking about re-upping Seven Dreams of Falling if I could convince Scott Wilkerson to pick his libretto back up. Alas, Scott passed away unexpectedly this year.

Ten Little Waltzes I actually worked on. I got four of them done. The only thing holding me back is having to learn an entirely new music layout program. Ugh. (See below.)

Proposed Efforts for 2025

Select and then learn a new music layout program

Since Finale pulled the plug on its own life support, we’ve all had to find other means of creating our music. I spent a day or two exporting all my Finale files into .musicxml files, which are importable by the two top contenders, MuseScore and Dorigo, and neither of which is intuitive. So I have to get serious about choosing one of them.

Ten Little Waltzes

Just as soon as I settle on a music program.

Jane Anger

…the full title of which is JANE ANGER or The Lamentable Comedie of JANE ANGER, that Cunning Woman, and also of Willy Shakefpeare and his Peasant Companion, Francis, Yes and Also of Anne Hathaway (also a Woman) Who Tried Very Hard. If Southern Arc doesn’t mind hosting a bawdy, hysterical comedy, look for it sometime this year.
