Artists burning

This past Saturday I and my fellow Lichtenbergian Turff went to a burn get-together for artists. The agenda was to socialize with other artists and to announce the new procedures for funding burn art.

In general, the new funding process is going to be a lot more open, a lot more flexible, a lot less show-and-tell/science fair, and very much more inclusive of those who might have ideas but not the skills or resources to make them happen. (Look for that information soon at alchemyburn.com.)

The leaders taped up four sheets of paper for us to write on:

  • Blank sheet for drawing on, i.e., art

  • What skills would we like to learn

  • What skills did we have to share/teach

  • What roadblocks were we facing in making our art

The very first thing written on the roadblocks sheet was “impostor syndrome.”

Well.

I chatted with Ernie, our leader, who said they were looking for ideas for monthly sessions where people could teach/learn skills (power tools, autoCAD, etc) and I suggested that my trusty Lichtenbergianism lecture might be helpful to the general hippie population if they were suffering from impostor syndrome. So that may be a thing on my plate.

As for me, I have no new ideas for burn art — at the last Alchemy I had the 3 Old Men labyrinth, GALAXY, and March from the Dark Side, and keeping those going is enough dedication to the cause for any man.
