Fun Friday Resources

If you are like me, this is not the week to be serious about projects. The brain just isn’t there. So here’s the perfect resource: IMG_001, by Riley Walz. Just go look. (Previously and similarly, check out Astronaut.)

Otherwise, over at our Library of Congress there are actually useful digital resources, which you can be alerted by subscribing to The Signal, their newsletter for doing just that.

One resource that interested me was the Historical Media Publications, i.e., magazines from 100 years ago about the broadcasting business. It’s a rich source of contemporary opinions, predictions, etc, and of course the ads are always instructive and usually amusing.

On a more somber note, the AIDS Memorial Quilt Records consists of more than 150,000 records donated by the NAMES Project and the National AIDS Memorial.

Did you know you can volunteer to transcribe material in the LOC’s collections?

Finally, something silly and/or useful depending on your needs: Written Sound: Onomatopoeia Dictionary. I mean, where else are you going to find a definition of aaugh?
