Sampler: an update

This post is a bit of a Hail Mary; a lot of stuff I’m working on is still so up-in-the-air/inchoate that I can’t really write about it, so I’m forced to work on that mystery piece, “Sampler,” and give you a kind of update for it.

I’ve tweaked a couple of notes here and there, nothing that would strike you as a change from its original ABORTIVE ATTEMPT. I’ve allowed myself to accept the modal opening as cromulent, and there are still some bits that I think I’ll revisit as we go along, the piece pretty much stands.

But.

I don’t know exactly how the lyrics fit. The original has some lyrics scribbled in, but by no means is the thing actually composed. So today I’m going to sit down with the printed score and see if I can figure out what I meant by all this.
