Update on the GALAXY Project (part 14)

When the powers that be announced that the Alchemy Art Fundraiser was a go, the same powers had not at all decided we were actually going to be able to have the burn, but the announcement still flipped a switch in me: time to get to work. For one thing, I needed to nudge my Chief Engineer Turff to figure out how we were going to wire and power 200 electroluminescent (EL) wire rings so that I could submit a budget.

Turff swung into action.

No, I don’t know what they are either. That’s why I have an engineering department. I am the artistic director of the enterprise. (Insert Star Trek Dr. McCoy joke here.)

But Turff worked and worked, and yesterday I submitted our application to be a part of the fundraiser on Jul 31. It is very exciting.

I am very excited. The Alchemy Art Fundraiser is always a lot of fun, a kind of demented junior high science fair.

Most of the projects are beyond wild in their imaginative concept and execution, and it’s sometimes difficult to decide who will get your “votes” in the form of allocated $. I’ve been fortunate to have been fully funded both times I’ve participated, in 2015 for the cloth walls of the labyrinth for 3 Old Men, and in 2016 for the lights for those walls.

So my next step is create the science fair display of GALAXY. Turff is prototyping a section of the work (he’s divided the spinal wire into six sections for more betterer electricalizing.
